In Memoriam; Angelo Bratsis

NISOA is saddened to announce the passing of Angelo Bratsis.

Angelo was a FIFA referee from 1980-1992, worked college games regularly, and worked in multiple professional leagues including the MLS.  He was past Director of the National Program for Referee Assessment, as well as Chairman of the USASA Referee Committee; his impact on the officiating community was widespread.

Angelo could be found at amateur soccer games and tournaments around the country.  A natural teacher, he worked often with younger referees to help develop their skillsets and mentor them as they rose through the ranks. Angelo was a recipient of US Soccer’s Eddie Pearson Award and one of only four people from the United States to receive the FIFA Special Award for Referees.

Angelo leaves behind his wife, two daughters, his son, and eight grandchildren.
