NISOA unveils Mentorship Program

Anyone who successfully pursues a career in officiating does so with the assistance of others, it takes a village. That makes mentoring one of the most important things in helping a professional stay healthy and whole while continuously developing throughout one’s career.

The NISOA Mentorship Program provides referees with these resources by providing individually selected mentors along with a guided framework to foster interaction and learning. Referees of all levels and experiences have benefitted from this growing network. Veteran officials have the opportunity to feel reinvigorated through the interaction with their younger peers while rookie officials benefit from the years of experience from their mentors and while each year’s cohort is ten months long, the relationships and connections can last a lifetime.

The Process

To participate, NISOA members must apply by August 5, 2024. Referees are placed in one of three peer groups based on experiences (length of experience & level of experience considered)

Selected referees are matched with other referees in their adjacent peer groups ideally resulting in a group comprised of varying experience levels. Referees have the option to request specific affinity groups (under-represented interests, gender-specific, etc).

Groups are provided with a structured set of guidelines designed to engender trust and bring out a worthwhile exchange among every participant.

To ensure the success of groups, each mentor group is assembled individually. The Mentoring Committee works to match you with other referees sharing similar needs, interests (and time zones).

To ensure a quality experience, participation is limited and not every referee will be selected.

Applications

Applications are open to NISOA Members via the weekly newsletter!
